Yes and no. This is an expanded version of a reply I made to a question in Jay Whacker’s answer. In “ordinary” field theory such as the Standard Model (and its particular components such as electromagnetism) & general relativity, spacetime is the. In this book, the author provides an introduction to the formulation of quantum field theory in curved spacetime. The main features of the theory and the relations between different approaches are clarified here along with the Unruh effect and the Hawking effect.

While I am not a huge fan of the book, students seem to love Srednicki's Quantum Field Theory. More recently, Schwartz's Quantum Field Theory and the Standard Model is a great book from my inspection and students seem to enjoy it, though I've n. B.S. DeWitt, Quantum field theory in curved spacetime cannot in the end be based on the Poincare group. What is needed is a theory - or at least a frame work-that respects the full general covariance of Einstein's view of spacetime as a Riemannian manifold.

The theory of quantum fields on curved spacetimes has attracted great attention since the discovery, by Stephen Hawking, of black-hole evaporation. It remains an important subject for the understanding of such contemporary topics as inflationary cosmology, quantum gravity and 5/5(3). In this book, Robert Wald provides a coherent, pedagogical introduction to the formulation of quantum field theory in curved spacetime. He begins with a treatment of the ordinary one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator, progresses through the construction of quantum field theory in flat spacetime to possible constructions of quantum field theory in curved spacetime, and, ultimately, to an Cited by: This book develops quantum field theory in curved spacetime in a pedagogical style, suitable for graduate students.

I would just like to add to your great list the book "quantum field theory in curved spacetime" by Leonard Parker and David Toms. For reference I would put it in the same level as the classic by Birrel & Davis in scope, but more up to date $\endgroup$ – cesaruliana May 1 '14 at QUANTUM FIELD THEORY IN CURVED SPACETIME 1 L.H.

Ford Institute of Cosmology Department of Physics and Astronomy Tufts University Medford, Massachusetts email: [email protected] OUTLINE These lectures will deal with selected aspects of quantum field theory in curved spacetime [1].

The basic outline of this series of lectures will. Quantum field theory in curved spacetime has been remarkably fruitful.

It can be used to explain how the large-scale structure of the universe and the anisotropies of the cosmic background radiation that we observe today first arose. Similarly, it provides a deep connection between general relativity, thermodynamics, and quantum field theory.

This book develops quantum field theory in curved. The topics of quantum field theory on curved backgrounds, the ADM formulation and a brief introduction of the Horava–Lifshitz quantum gravity are also presented. A standard discussion of the cosmological constant problem is found in the classic paper [ 1 ], and a lucid presentation of the current observational and theoretical status of dark.

the interested reader can find here an introduction to the key concepts and pointers towards further literature.

In mathematical physics, noncommutative quantum field theory (or quantum field theory on noncommutative spacetime) is an application of noncommutative mathematics to the spacetime of quantum field theory that is an outgrowth of noncommutative geometry and index theory in which the coordinate functions are commonly studied version of such theories has the.
